How to apply for Truman Scholarship
Students must first be nominated by their undergraduate institution before they can apply for the award. Up to four undergraduate students who have attended the institution since their freshman year may be nominated by each undergraduate institution in the United States. Each year, the foundation receives 900 applications, of which 50 to 60 are chosen. A regional review panel evaluates each application before choosing finalists for interviews.
Panels of former Truman academics, board trustees, and eminent national public leaders conduct the interviews. The judges determine the scholarship recipients in the end, making an effort to select one from each of the 50 states and American territories. Throughout the process, there is no preference for any one profession, area of service, or area of policy.
