  • Allowance

Monthly: 117,000 yen.   • Traveling Expenses

Transport to Japan: MEXT will offer an airplane ticket and specify the travel itinerary for grantees who will arrive in Japan within the time frame provided in “5. (6) Arrival in Japan.” A plane ticket and airline ticket in economy class from the international airport that is nearest to the grantee’s home (in the nation of nationality) to a Japanese international airport traveled on the regular path to the accepting university.

If the grantee must go to a third country before applying for a visa to Japan, the grantee must pay for all associated travel and housing expenses. if there are no direct flights from Japan to his/her country or if there are no Japanese diplomatic missions in that country.

Transportation from Japan: MEXT will give grantees an airline ticket based on their application if they graduate from the accepted university and return to their home country by the conclusion of the scholarship’s final month.

A round-trip economy plane ticket from the international airport in Japan that is normally utilized for travel to and from the accepting university to the international airport (in theory, in the nationality country) closest to the returning recipient’s home will be provided by MEXT.

All expenses for travel from the grantee’s home in Japan to the closest international airport, including airport taxes, usage fees, special travel taxes, travel within the country of citizenship (including airline transit costs), travel insurance costs, carry-on luggage or unaccompanied baggage costs, etc., must be covered by the grantee personally.

  • Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1987, in theory.
  • Academic background: To be accepted as a Master’s or Doctoral Program student at the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Science, applicants must meet the required requirements.
