What is the HPSP scholarship

The Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) offers aspiring medical professionals the opportunity to receive financial aid in exchange for serving as a commissioned medical department officer. This includes veterinarians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, optometrists, psychologists, pharmacists, and veterinarians. In the American Army, American Navy, and American Air Force, there are programs available.

the Uniformed Services Health Professions Revitalization Act of 1972, which gave it the go light to be established. The HPSP is the main source for medically qualified personnel joining the US Armed Forces.

Scholarship “selectees” are commissioned as second lieutenants in the US Army Reserve, US Air Force Reserve, or ensigns in the US Navy Reserve, depending on their eligibility for a commission (including US citizenship, physical and intellectual standards, etc.). After that, while undergoing medical training, the chosen candidates are put on inactive reserve status.
